Mentoring

Are you looking to publish your work? Are you struggling to find the right words, or to get your ideas into shape? Would your writing benefit from editorial support from an experienced writing tutor?

What I offer

Individually tailored support, with in-depth feedback on your writing, delivered through one-to-one Zoom meetings, to help you develop your skills and confidence.

The process is entirely directed and shaped by you, focussing on what you feel are your particular writing needs and goals.

Who is it suitable for?

Writers of all genres, and all levels of experience. I specialise in:

  • fiction (both literary and commercial, including novels and short stories);
  • creative non-fiction;
  • academic writing.

Are you a novelist seeking help with issues such as plot, dialogue or description? Would you value some editorial input as you redraft your work prior to submitting it to literary agents?

Or are you a PhD student or early career researcher, working on your thesis, first journal article or monograph? If so, I can help you develop your academic voice, structure and argument.

What does mentoring involve?

A typical mentoring session involves:

  • close reading of written work (up to 3,000 words per session);
  • friendly and constructive written feedback;
  • a 60-minute Zoom meeting;
  • discussion of your goals, writing strengths and areas to work on;
  • practical solutions to challenges you’re facing in your writing.

Sessions typically take place every 1–2 months. A minimum of four sessions is usually recommended, but they can continue for as long as you find them useful.

I can also provide one-off sessions to tackle specific writing issues.

How much does it cost?

£225 per session, which includes my written feedback on your extract.
